BioSystems (Elsevier) - special issue "Patterns of  Evolution"
========================================
CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue of Biosystems on evolution: Patterns of Evolution
Guest Editors: Abir U. Igamberdiev, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, Canada; Alexei A. Sharov, National Institute on Aging, NIH, Baltimore, Maryland, USA
BioSystems invites manuscripts for the special issue "Patterns of Evolution", which will be focused on the systems analysis of predictable patterns in the evolution of living organisms. The emphasis will be given to the theoretical and quantitative analysis of mechanisms that generate patterns in evolution (e.g., symmetry transformations, self-organization, regulatory networks, structure-function closures, combinatorics of functions, modularity, and organization hierarchy). This special issue encourages papers that are focused on the internal biological organization as an important factor of evolution, which is not opposed but integrated with existing paradigms of the "modern synthesis." Articles that provide quantitative insights into the regulation of complex evolutionary processes, as well as integrative models describing spatio-temporal dynamics of evolutionary events will be considered. Insights into the mechanisms and evolutionary consequences of phenotypic and functional plasticity and evolvability/adaptability are also encouraged.
Topics of interest include but not limited to:
Logic of evolutionary transformations
Symmetry transformations in evolution
Organizational invariance of evolutionary processes
Non-linear analysis of evolutionary process
Information transfer and evolution
Modeling of evolutionary process
Coevolutionary games
Embryonic development as evolutionary factor
Semiotic analysis of evolving living systems
Role of structural and functional plasticity in evolution
Role of adaptability/evolvability in evolution
New approaches to the modeling of evolutionary process
Authors interested in participating in this special issue should provide a tentative title to the guest editor as soon as possible. Manuscripts will be peer-reviewed following standard BioSystems journal procedures. All communications on manuscripts submission and reviews will be managed within the Elsevier Editorial System (EES). Upon manuscript submission, please indicate that your manuscript is prepared for the special issue on evolution.
Submission deadline: February 15, 2014
For more information, please contact the guest editors or Editor-in-Chief.
